What is TRiO?

TRiO—or Student Support Services—IS A FEDERALLY FUNDED PROGRAMS WHICH operates within the Bacone College Division of Academic Support and provides services for students who are selected because of first-generation college attendance, low family income, or documented disability.

How Do I Apply?

Pick up an application in Palmer Center 204. Please print & complete the application and return it to PC 204. Complete the LASSI test in PC 204. Participate in the selection interview.

What Services Are Offered?

Academic: Academic tutoring, especially in reading, writing, and mathematics, academic guidance and advisement, web-access computer labs, equipment loans (lap-tops, calculators, tape recorders), assistance with school supplies, duplicating/printing, faxing), selected “survival skills” workshops (e.g., time management, study tips, resume writing), tutorials in MOODLE and introductory computer usage.
Non-Academic: Recreational events (e.g., bowling), cultural events (e.g., local concerts), personal support (i.e., a sympathetic ear), assistance accessing other College services (e.g., financial aid, student life).

Who Offers the Services?

Deborah Banks, Math Specialist

In my role as Math Specialist here at Student Support Services (TriO), I am here to help you be successful in your math classes. You may have found math to be difficult in the past, but this semester will be different! “People begin to become successful the minute they decide to be.” –Harvey Mackay. Schedule a tutoring session and begin your journey to success in math.

I graduated in 1998 from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and have been teaching or tutoring math ever since. I earned an MBA from Oklahoma Wesleyan University, located in Bartlesville. Originally a native of Michigan, I have lived in Oklahoma since 1979, and Oklahoma has become my “adopted” home state.

Linda Jordon, English Specialist

I am the English Specialist in Student Support Services, and, as you can probable guess from my title, I tutor writing. I can also help you solve logic puzzles and chemical equations, and, in a pinch, grill you for your biology exam. I have taught everything from International Composition to Languages of the World to Composition I and II to World Lit.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. I spent four years studying Linguistic Anthropology as a Master’s student at the University of Oklahoma, and I received an Interdisciplinary Master’s in Native American Linguistics, Native American History, and Native American Literature. I have done Ph.D. coursework in Applied Linguistics and ESL/TESL at Oklahoma State University, and might even go back someday to finish the degree.
